Record a daily log

A Daily Log groups the duty-status history and supporting daily information for a driver date. Use it when you need a record of off-duty, sleeper, driving, on-duty, and certification activity.

Daily log versus trip

A Daily Log is date-centered. It is the place for duty-status events and daily supporting records, even when the truck did not complete a point-to-point trip.

A Trip is movement-centered. It records origin, destination, distance, cargo or reference details, and operational notes for one trip. Trips can still carry inspections, expenses, maintenance, and documents, but the professional duty-status event card belongs to Daily Log entries.

  • Choose Daily Log when the key record is the driver day or duty timeline.
  • Choose Trip when the key record is movement from one location to another.
  • Use both when a work day has a duty timeline and one or more trips that need separate business records.

Create the daily entry

  1. Open Add entry and choose Daily Log.
  2. Enter the entry date and select the driver, truck, and trailer when applicable.
  3. Add the starting odometer or location details when useful.
  4. Add inspections, maintenance, fuel, repairs, documents, and notes that belong to the day.
  5. Save the entry, then open its detail page to add duty-status events.

Certify and review the day

Daily records can include certification-type events when the professional view requires them. Review the duty timeline, locations, annotations, inspections, defects, fuel, repairs, and supporting documents before treating the day as complete.

If something goes wrong

  • If Daily Log is not available, the active view may be Recreational, which hides the ELD/duty-status workflow.
  • If a duty timeline is empty, open the saved daily log and add duty-status events from the detail page.
  • If the wrong date is summarized, verify the local date and timezone on each duty-status event.
